Repairing a GAZ-69 soviet 4x4

GAZ-69 is an old model. Given the age, there always is a lot of welding to be done on the body. GAZ-69 has two engine versions - the older "bottom" Russian and the  ZHUK engine version used by non-Russian armies. The advantage of the Polish engine is the accessibility of spares. GAZ-69 is a collector all-terrain. (If you want something to be destroyed in the woods, buy one of our "driving-only" UAZ-469).  There are roughly 500 working hours spent on each vehicle. Often entire body parts have to be reproduced. All spares cost more compared to the UAZ jeeps. Our upholsterer creates a fine tarpaulin tailor made. All this has to be reflected into the final price of the GAZ-69 vehicles we sell - the prices are around 8.000 euros without VAT for a ready vehicle.

First of all, the body and the chassis are taken apart.

The body is sand-blasted.

Same for the chassis.

Usually there is some welding on the chassis, too.

After the welding the whole frame is covered with a anti-rust paint. The steering and the suspension are fixed.

DSC05221

Time to do the brakes. All cylinders, hoses both in rubber and in copper are changed.

Meanwhile we can focus on the engine.  This, compression ration checked, is taken apart completely.

DSC05131_1

All gaskets are changed. Valves brushed. Piston rings changed. Head polished. Cylinders brushed. Same for the pumps and the carburetor. The engine is cleaned and painted. The gearboxes and the clutch are checked and fine-tuned. All fillings are changed.

Time to put the engine back in.

Everything has to sealed again.

IMAG2109

The fuel tanks have to be welded, too. And covered with a special resin.

IMAG2107

New sensors are put in.

IMAG2112

Time for the hours and hours of cutting, welding, brushing and puttying.
